2. Knowing what you know now, what advice would you have liked to give yourself as you started your internship?
Life fulfills our dreams. However, not always in the shape or forms we imagine. Therefore, don't be afraid of taking an unexpected or unseen path that opens to you.
3. What is something that really stands out when you think about your time at MRU Journalism?
It is a well-rounded program. MRU journalists are well rounded; Swiss army knife reporters that can do it all.
4. How transferrable were the skills you acquired in your education?
Very transferable. Journalism is a mindset or a way of thinking that helps us see problems and opportunities from unique perspectives. Also, technical skills like writing, research and design are very useful skills in almost every field.
5. In your career, what type of work has most excited you, and why?
Engaging with customers to identify, understand and address their pain points with new products.
6. What is the most important but unwritten rule that you’ve learned on the job?
Never be afraid to say you know nothing about a subject or to share your goals. Often, people are happy to help others succeed.
7. Who has most inspired you along the way, and why?
I draw inspiration from the pursuit of discovering how far I can go when I ignore what I perceive are my limits (which are mostly and often set by my fears).
8. Is there anything else you would like to share about your experience in MRU Journalism?
You get what you put into the program. Learning is a path that goes beyond class lectures and assignments. Learning occurs when we push our boundaries by going the extra mile.
