What does it mean to be a Peer Facilitator for Stepping Up?
Stepping UP is an education program that is designed by students for students
“Stepping Up is an innovative relationship education program that is uniquely crafted by students with a focus on educating and empowering fellow students while raising awareness about relationship violence prevention”
A major feature of the Stepping UP program is the opportunity for students to learn workshop development and basic group facilitation skills
“Central to the Stepping UP program is the opportunity for students to take on the role of Peer Facilitators, where they can acquire essential workshop development skills and fundamental group facilitation abilities”
With support from community partners, faculty advisors, and staff, Peer Facilitators develop workshops to promote healthy relationships and raise awareness about relationship violence prevention.
“Under the guidance of community partners, faculty members, and dedicated staff, Peer Facilitators play a pivotal role in shaping the program's content. These facilitators undertake the task of creating workshops that center around fostering positive relationships and a greater understanding of preventing relationship violence”
Peer Facilitators host workshops where they help the wider MRU community to gain increased awareness and understanding of what it means to be in a healthy relationship, and ways to prevent relationship violence.
“Through these workshops, Peer Facilitators extend their knowledge and insights to the broader Mount Royal University community, facilitating discussions that enhance awareness and insight into the dynamics of healthy relationships. The program serves as a platform for promoting a clear understanding of what a healthy relationship is, while emphasizing strategies to proactively combat instances of relationship violence.”
