The following answers some of the most commonly asked questions about Mount Royal University's Bachelor of Nursing program.
The nursing field is changing rapidly, and nursing education must also change. This program prepares graduates for the full scope of nursing practice today and tomorrow.
The Bachelor of Nursing:
- Focuses on primary and population health and health promotion.
- It is taught by faculty with extensive clinical experience.
- Every year of the program offers extensive clinical practice opportunities in a wide range of nursing practice settings.
- Features in-depth, intensive learning in concentrated blocks of study.
- It has an integrated general education requirement to give you a well-rounded education.
- Offers a range of northern and remote practice opportunities when available.
- It offers senior health, family newborn health, mental health, and child health courses.
The Bachelor of Nursing currently only has a Fall intake. We accept applications between approximately October 1st and February 1st. Please check the Admissions site.
You must also be able to complete all aspects of the vaccination requirements, including the mandatory Rubella vaccine.

In addition to the admission requirements of Mount Royal University, the Nursing program requires specific documents to be submitted before beginning the program (i.e. N95 Mask Fit testing, Immunization documentation/records, Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, etc.).
All newly admitted students will receive an admission package with specific program requirements.
Please note: To be considered current, the Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search must be completed within three months before the program begins.
Students who have been required to withdraw from the Bachelor of Nursing Program (RTWP) are eligible to apply for readmission to the program 12 months after the RTWP.
Step 1: Application (The application process* has two parts)
- Application through ApplyAlberta. The application must be received at Mount Royal University (MRU) by the February 1 deadline. You are responsible for requesting all final, official post-secondary transcripts from institutions attended since the last application to MRU (if outside of Alberta). The final official transcripts must be received at MRU by February 1. Check dates and deadlines for admission.
- Submit the Reintegration Plan form to the School of Nursing and Midwifery Director by February 1.
- Admissions will complete the academic assessment to determine the applicant’s eligibility for readmission and notify the Director of the School of Nursing and Midwifery.
- If the applicant is academically qualified, the School of Nursing and Midwifery Director convenes a meeting of the School of Nursing and Midwifery Readmission Committee. The Committee reviews the applicant’s Reintegration Plan and the applicant’s MRUGradU8. The Director invites eligible applicants to an interview with the School of Nursing and Midwifery Readmission Committee.
- The Readmission Committee renders a decision to Admissions, and the applicant is notified of the decision by Admissions through the standard admission notification procedure.
- The successful applicant meets with a Bachelor of Nursing academic advisor to begin implementing their reintegration plan.
