As an adjunct assistant professor with University of Calgary, Shawn received individual research grant from Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) (1997-2001). Shawn had undertaken statistical research in the area of robust statistics.
Shawn is a member of Statistical Society of Canada.
Recently, Shawn has developed a statistics course: "Statistics for biological Sciences" for B. Sc. in Health Science, Cellular and Molecular Biology and another statistics course: "Statistics with application in Geology" for B. Sc. in Geology.
Shawn is currently coordinating and working on "Calgary Elementary School Mathematics Contest".
Shawn completed his PhD degree at the University of Calgary under the supervision of Dr. John Collins. Shawn received scholarship from NSERC during his doctoral program and finished his doctoral dissertation: "Some Topics in Robust Statistics".
Shawn completed his M. Sc. Degree at Lakehead University with the master thesis: "Characterization for the Existence of a Solution to the Moment Problem on Finite Number of Intervals."
Shawn completed his B. Sc. Degree at East China Normal University with thesis: "The Realization of Fedorov's Algorithm in Optimal Experimental Design".
Shawn joined Mount Royal University in 1995. Over the years, he has taught many mathematics and statistics courses which include: Calculus, Linear Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, Concepts of Mathematical Statistics, Introduction of Statistics, Statistical Inference, Statistics for Life Sciences, Statistics for Engineering, Mathematical Probability and Mathematical Statistics.
Shawn also coordinates statistics courses in the department.
Shawn has served various committees in the department, faculty and institution.
His research interests are robust statistics and application of statistics in applied sciences.
