 Review your advising guide

Each program has a detailed first-year advising guide. The guide will help you plan your course selections for the first year, discover student services offered at Mount Royal to ensure your academic success, and learn about pathways available and course requirements like General Education (GNED), electives or majors.

At Mount Royal, all degree and diploma program require students to meet General Education requirements. The General Education component requires students to take a combination of courses from four clusters (subject areas).

Review registration resources

We have developed a variety of videos to support your registration process. Watch the complete registration tutorial series to get a head start understanding the software and the needed steps. Learn important details about navigating MyMRU and course registration, including looking up course descriptions and registering for courses.

My Schedule Builder is an especially helpful tool to visually see your semester as a timetable. View this video to see how to can use My Schedule Builder.

mruGradU8 is another tool designed to assist you in reviewing your academic history, easily identifying requirements you have completed and those that are still needed for graduation.

Key elements you should know:

  • There are several options available that allow you to create a schedule that works for you. Most classes are offered in two-day blocks as MW (Monday and Wednesday), TR (Tuesday and Thursday) or WF (Wednesday and Friday). Others take place just once a week, and some are offered at night.
  • The note section at the bottom of your schedule will show if a lab or tutorial is required for your course. If there is one noted, add it to your schedule at the same time that you add your lecture.
    • Labs are learning components that are directly linked to lectures and are designed to complement them. They are often graded components that are a part of your course curriculum.
    • Like labs, tutorials are complementary components that may or may not be graded. They allow you to apply the material you learn in a practical manner.

To learn more about your class structure, course components, and general academics, check out the Welcome Guide.

Request your OneCard

Your ONECard is your official Mount Royal University ID. It provides you with access to buildings, labs, and offices and allows you to access on-campus services such as printing. There are a few steps to getting your ONECard and you will need to complete both the photo and print request to have it ready for you on April 5.

Review information about servies

If you had an IPP or accommodations in high school, connect Access and Inclusion Services.

Getting learning accommodations is very different from in high school, and your participation is necessary if you want to have them in place by September. New students must provide recent documentation and meet with the Accessibility and Inclusion team to create a plan. Depending on the demand, this can take up to six to eight weeks, so we strongly encourage you to get connected now.

Attend our online workshop on March 26 at 7 p.m. If you cannot attend, register anyway to get the follow-up information.

Learn more about the academic accommodation process and feel free to reach out now if you have any questions.

If you are unsure if you want to put accommodations in place or if you will need them, do it anyway. It is far easier to have them lined up with the Accessibility Strategists and choose to not use them, than to need them in September and have to wait eight weeks.

Review the Welcome Guide

The Welcome Guide has details about your campus life, living on campus and payment information. Take some time to review each page to learn about what is available to you.
