Mental health nurses provide medical care for concerns related to your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health.

Our services

Our mental health nurses provide mental and physical assessments in order to triage your medical need for support. The mental health nurse assesses a wide range of concerns related to your mental health, which includes understanding the connection between your mental and physical health. We will help you connect with the right resources and supports on- and off-campus.

Who has access?

All current MRU students, employees and faculty are welcome to access this free service. You are not required to have a family doctor in the Health Services clinic to access services from the mental health nurse.

You can book a mental health nurse appointment over the phone, in person, or online. If you require an urgent appointment, let our front desk staff know and we will do our best to accommodate your needs. In case of a medical emergency on campus, please call Security Services at 403.440.5900.

Appointment policies

What can I expect?

When you arrive for your scheduled appointment at the Health Services clinic (U216), new patients will be asked to complete some paperwork and a mental health screen (if not previously completed). Please bring your provincial health care card. During your appointment, the mental health nurse will ask questions to assess your needs while you share your concerns. The nurse will help you identify resources and together you will decide on the next steps. The appointment may take up to one hour.

Confidentiality

MRU Health Services is committed to protecting your personal health information according to the Health Information Act and other applicable provincial and federal legislation. Your personal health information will not be used or disclosed with anyone outside of MRU Health Services, except with your written consent or as permitted by law.

Cancellation policy

Please cancel at least 24 hours prior to your appointment time if you are unable to attend. You can leave a message on the answering machine after hours.
