Professional Licensing
Graduates of the Funeral Service programs may become licensed as a Funeral Director and/or Embalmer in the province of Alberta. Licensing requirements are governed by the Alberta Funeral Services Regulatory Board.
Students or graduates residing outside of Alberta should contact the provincial or national regulatory body governing funeral service in their province.
Licensing in the Province of Alberta
Graduates must be sponsored by an Alberta funeral home to be licensed as a Funeral Director and/or Embalmer. To be employed in the funeral profession in Alberta, you must also have a police information check and a non-graduated Class 5 driver's license. Licensing requirements are subject to change at the discretion of the Alberta Funeral Services Regulatory Board (AFSRB). Licensing inquiries should be directed to the AFSRB at 1.800.563.4652.
Licensing in the Province of Saskatchewan
Mount Royal University offers a funeral service education program that is approved by the Funeral and Cremation Services Council of Saskatchewan (Council). Once enrolled in a Mount Royal Funeral program, Saskatchewan students must submit Embalmer/Funeral Director Student Registration Application to the Council. Please direct all licensing questions directly to the Council.
