Over her more than five decades of teaching and service at Mount Royal, she has actively participated in the governance, growth and transformation of the institution.  During her tenure in the English Department, Elaine has taught a variety of courses, developed curriculum, served on the Board of Governors and on innumerable committees and policy initiatives of all kinds and at all levels. For 17 years, she was seconded to the ADC to serve as Faculty Development Coordinator.  There she initiated the annual MRFA Faculty Retreat, the post-tenure evaluation triad program, and organized conferences, workshops, and mentor opportunities.

Scholarly Interests:
Current interests include teaching, critical thinking, brain-based pedagogy, language and learning, composition, and rhetoric.

Teaching Statement:
In her teaching, Elaine creates learning situations which challenge her students to expand their thinking – and to question everything. Her pedagogy is based on brain-based learning and neuro-linguistic programming theory. She believes that all students desire to learn and can learn, and that teaching and learning are most effective when a positive, respectful, and optimistic atmosphere is cultivated. Most importantly, everything Elaine does in her work is based on respect for her students and on developing their self-confidence.  Her pedagogy is focused on engagement: Engagement with ideas, with examples, with personalities, with each other.
