W. Mark Giles, descendant of settlers and itinerants, lives in Mohkinstsis (aka Calgary), on traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, who include the Siksika, the Piikuni, the Kainai, the Tsuu T’ina, and the Stoney Nakoda First Nations. He offers acknowledgement to the original dwellers, and deep gratitude.
Giles has written two books of award-winning fiction, “Knucklehead” and “Seep”, both published by the amazing Brian Kaufman at Anvil Press in Vancouver. He has also published stories and poems, presented visual poetry, performed, and made presentations in venues in Canada and the U.S.A. He is currently performing a durational and documentary creative practice, writing and posting haiku daily since the beginning of covid -- IG @w_mark_giles_haiku. Giles has taught creative writing, academic writing, and literature since 2008 at universities across Canada, and at MRU since 2017.
