On Monday, August 29, 2022, faculty and staff from the Department of Education met at Connect Charter School’s Field Experience Site at Sibbald Lake to bless and assemble the tipi. The tipi was provided by the Tsuu T’ina nation’s Starlight family. Bruce Starlight Jr. guided the department members through the assembly and disassembly of the tipi.
Starlight made it clear in his teachings that there are multiple ways to assemble the tipi. He showed us his way while sharing the different ways that his family members take. This point resonated with the department members as they assembled the tipi at MRU on September 14 with the help of students and Dion Simon's guidance. We are grateful to Grandmother Doreen Spence, who blessed the tipi at the inaugural placement on campus. All community members and students are welcome to visit and use the tipi when they see it assembled outside the Riddell Library and Learning Center.
As part of the Professional Development School model, we will share the tipi and appropriate protocols teachings with Kindergarten to grade 9 partner schools.
