change research in action

Mount Royal University’s unique approach to research and scholarship combines advancing knowledge, including students and collaborating with community. This means we work across disciplines to address complex issues that are multi-, inter-, and trans-disciplinary. Impactful research is happening across all Faculties, Schools, Centres and Institutes! Our undergraduate students are given unique opportunities to participate in research as paid Research Assistants, through coursework and honours programs, and through volunteer opportunities.

change research in community

Research and scholarship at Mount Royal is often connected to community. Community-engaged research is an approach to research that incorporates input from community members who are typically impacted by the research outcomes and who are involved throughout the process of creating meaningful change.

Changemakers

Research is about breaking boundaries, testing the limits of knowledge, applying expertise for a greater good and changing the world around us for the better. Research is inherently connected to change, as a researcher shapes the future through their work. Every researcher is a changemaker, and as a Changemaker Campus, Mount Royal is dedicated to celebrating research excellence and how our students and faculty contribute.

In 2023, Mount Royal’s designation as an Ashoka Changemaker University was renewed. The Changemaker Campus designation recognizes MRU’s commitment to social and ecological justice, social innovation education and commitment to building the capacity, skills and knowledge to launch the changemakers of tomorrow.  A changemaker prioritizes empathy, embraces humility and is committed to making a positive difference. At MRU, we celebrate student, faculty and staff changemakers on campus.
