Emergency and Continuity Management

The Emergency and Continuity Management program at MRU provides a comprehensive framework for planning for and responding effectively to emergencies and disruptive events:

  • Emergency Management focuses on preparing for and responding to emergencies by identifying potential threats, creating response plans, training staff, and coordinating resources during a response, in alignment with the University's priorities.
  • Continuity Management ensures that critical functions and services can continue, or be recovered within an acceptable timeframe, when disruptions occur. Continuity planning involves identifying critical functions and resources, selecting recovery strategies, and developing continuity and contingency plans to return to an acceptable level of operations as quickly as possible.

These two major components are independent but interoperable - emergencies often disrupt normal operations, requiring the University to address both the immediate situation and its cascading impacts. Together, they are governed by the Emergency and Continuity Management policy.
