REMINDER: Changes to parking enforcement in effect
Earlier this year, MRU Parking & Transportation Services updated parking enforcement on campus to help increase parking space availability, alleviate traffic congestion and have a greater positive impact on campus.
Changes to enforcement measures include:
- Using vehicle-mounted mobile licence plate recognition technology.
- Ticketing those who do not pay for parking and those who back into/pull through stalls.
- Towing vehicles to the new on-campus impound lot when there are two or more tickets associated with a licence plate past the 30-day payment window.
- Working directly with individuals who have several outstanding tickets to provide reasonable payment plans.
As a courtesy to students, faculty and staff returning to campus from the summer break, Parking Services will issue up to two courtesy tickets per licence plate for backing into or pulling through stalls from Aug. 15 to Sept. 19. As of Sept. 20, all parking violations will be enforced and ticketed.
Payment for parking is required at all times and will continue to be enforced.
Signage has been installed as a reminder of these rules and enforcement measures.
These enforcement measures make parking on campus more equitable by better supporting those who are already paying for parking. A few examples:
- If someone does not pay for parking in a permitted lot, they are taking a spot away from a permit holder who paid for a spot.
- As Alberta issues a sole licence plate that is mounted at the rear of a vehicle, if someone backs into/pulls through a stall we cannot use vehicle-mounted LPR technology to issue a ticket for non-payment, decreasing enforcement efficiency.
For your convenience, seven new pay stations have been installed in various locations for daily parkers. In addition to paying via Hotspot and lot-specific QR codes, the new pay stations take credit, debit and Apple Pay. Extended hours for pick up and payment of impound and tow fees will be available.
Note: If you are an employee using payroll deduction for your permit and currently have your HotSpot account set to auto-renew, no action is required. Your permit will automatically renew on Sept. 1. If you need assistance adjusting this setting please contact Parking & Transportation Services directly.
Parking Bylaws
The Post-Secondary Learning Act of Alberta (“PSLA”) gives the Board of Governors the authority to make parking and traffic bylaws to facilitate the orderly conduct of parking and parking services while on University Property. Parking regulations are detailed in the Mount Royal University Parking and Fines Bylaw.
