UPass (updated July 31, 2023)

Any Calgary Transit construction disruptions, detours, route changes will be found on Parking & Transportation's website.

Digital UPass is now available on Transit, Calgary Transit's trip lanning App as well as My Fare (available September 1, 2023)

The UPass is now available in the Calgary Transit My Fare app or on Transit, Calgary Transit's Trip Planning app.

Your UPass is connected to your City of Calgary MyID account. You can use it to either log into MyFare or the Transit app, but you can only choose to use one or the other. It's a good idea to decide which app you want to use, as you can only switch apps a limited number of times (these are considered device transfers).

If you are currently using the MyFare app and want to switch to Transit, just log in to Transit using your MyID username and password. Confirm you want to make the switch and the Transit app will be the one to display your UPass.

Features of the Transit App

  • Plan your trip directly from the app
  • It connects to other forms of travel modes, so you can search for an Uber, Communauto or your preferred eBike or eScooter

The Transit app is available on Google Play or the Apple Store.

How to get the UPass in the My Fare app

You can download the My Fare app from either the Google Play Store or the App Store. You will then need to set up your MyID account through the My Fare app. The Fall UPass is available after September 1 and the Winter UPass is available after January 1. You will not be able to access the UPass before these dates.

  1. Click on the menu (the "hamburger" button with three lines) in the top right corner of the app.
  2. Select "Profile" and then "New Account."
  3. Click on "Log in using Calgary MyID" and scroll down and click on the "Create a myID account" button.
  4. Fill in the form to create your MyID account. You must use your @mtroyal.ca email address when you create your account. Read and accept the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.

A verification code will be sent to your @mtroyal.ca email address -- this may take some time, as Calgary Transit is verifying your account and eligibility for the UPass.

  5. Once you have received the verification code, enter it into the My Fare app. It can take 24-48 hours for the UPass to appear in your Ticket Wallet.

How to use your UPass (My Fare app)

Once the UPass is in your Ticket Wallet, select it and tap the "Activate" button.

  • When you're on the bus, face your activated UPass at the onboard scanner, or if the operator asks, show it to them.
  • When you're on a CTrain, if asked, show your activated UPass to the Peace Officer, if requested.

Getting a UPass Sticker

If you don't have a smart phone, or would prefer a UPass sticker in place of the MyFare app, come to the ONECard Desk starting in the last week of August to request your sticker. ONECard will check your eligbility and issue you a sticker if approved. The first sticker is free, but if you need to replace it, Calgary Transit will charge you a $170 replacement fee for the new sticker.

You can not have the UPass on both the MyFare app and the sticker on the ONECard: getting the sticker will deactivate the app, and you cannot sign up for the app if you have the sticker.
