Program development is a core function of the university and reflects our faculty members' unique expertise and training. Developing university-level certificates, diplomas, and degrees is an ongoing and ever-advancing conversation at Mount Royal. Often, these programs are developed in response to a societal need identified by faculty members or academic departments.
All proposed academic programs must first receive approval from Provost’s Council. Once approval has been granted, departments will develop an internal Letter of Intent (LOI) that provides detailed information about the proposed program. The LOI must meet the approval of General Faculties Council before the department submits Part A of its proposal to the Ministry of Advanced Education. These approval checkpoints are required for both new program proposals and the addition of majors to an existing program.
