Tracy joined the faulty at MRC in 2002. She won a graduate teaching award and was listed as a popular professor in MacLean's University Survey three years in a row. Students are drawn to her engaging and challenging approach to sociology. In both the classroom and in her writing she applies a reflexive analysis to the ways in which everyday social interaction reproduces and challenges social structure. Her dissertation, on urban social interaction between lesbian strangers theorized the concept of 'gaydar' and studied the way that interactions resulting from this recognition strategy create solidarity and social resistance in a hetero-dominated world.
