QriTical Hub

Primary audience: Students, Employees, Community

The QriTical Research Hub helps foster connection and belonging for MRU’s 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Housed in the Trico Changemakers Studio, QriTical Hub offers a teaching and learning space for students and faculty to collaborate and host community workshops, events and other programming.

SAMRU Pride Centre

Primary audience: Students, Employees, Community

The Pride Centre, located in room Z211 in Wyckham House Student Centre, is dedicated to cultivating an open and welcoming space for people of all genders and sexual orientations. The centre prides itself on being a safe, inclusive and celebratory environment for the community.

Services available in the Pride Centre include in-centre expertise on topics related to relationships, identity and sexual health as well as community support resources, a library, free prophylactics and referrals. The Pride Centre also hosts events and programs that promote education and awareness on campus.

BIPOC resources and supports

 

Iniskim Centre

Primary audience: Students

The Iniskim Centre exists to create space and programming for Indigenous and non-Indigenous members of the MRU community. The centre is a welcoming space for all students, but our programs and resources are primarily designed for Indigenous students.

Iniskim has a bimonthly newsletter that is emailed to all self-identified Indigenous students at MRU. It includes announcements, events and opportunities such as employment and awards. You can be added to this list by contacting Marcedes at: mmoos304@mtroyal.ca.

Visitors are welcome to visit the Iniskim Centre in T110 to learn more about our programming or to volunteer for events that occur throughout the year.

Facilities Management and Campus Spaces

MRU Facilities Management is responsible for the maintenance and growth of our internal and external environment. Facilities Management supports our community by providing services that save money, time and resources. Faculty of Continuing Education and Extension

The Faculty of Continuing Education, which comprises Continuing Education and the Conservatory at MRU, is committed to EDIA. We deliver flexible and accessible education to meet the needs of our diverse learners, including music, speech arts, project management, health studies, occupational programs, academic upgrading, the Transitional Vocational Program (TVP) and so much more.

TVP and Inclusive Post-Secondary Education (IPSE) provide meaningful university experiences for adults with developmental disabilities. TVP provides a variety of unique personal, professional and academic learning opportunities in a cohort-based learning environment. IPSE supports adults with developmental disabilities to pursue an authentic post-secondary student experience in degree programs, which includes academic support and involvement in student life activities.

Academic upgrading courses allow students with a wide range of educational backgrounds and abilities to complete high school courses and achieve the grades they need to enter their post-secondary program of choice. These courses can be taken by students in various admission categories and are designed to deliver the approved curriculum while preparing students from diverse backgrounds for further post-secondary study.

Faculty of Health, Community and Education (HCE)

As a faculty whose work is deeply rooted in making connections across all sectors and populations, HCE inspires students to seek the truth and honour the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s calls to action. Now, we include the Scarborough Charter to guide us on anti-Black racism and Black inclusion in post-secondary education.

HCE has an internal advisory group that is working to support its commitment to EDIA within the faculty.

Joint Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee (JEDIC)

Primary audience: Employees

JEDIC was formed through agreement between the Mount Royal Faculty Association (MRFA) and the Board of Governors.

The MRFA Collective Agreement (Article 24.3) includes a standing JEDIC comprised of three representatives from the University and three from the MRFA. In the spring of 2022, JEDIC’s work led to the assembly of a task force to gather information and make recommendations about addressing racism at MRU. The JEDIC task force, which included nine members across the staff, exempt/management and faculty groups, completed their work in March 2023, producing a final report presented to MRU leadership.

 

Mount Royal Faculty Association Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee

The Mount Royal Faculty Association (MRFA) has a long standing commitment to EDIA in its member approved mission statement and will be engaging members in discussions on how this statement can be updated and strengthened moving forward.

President’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee (EDIAC)

Primary audience: Employees, Students

The EDIAC was set up in Fall 2020 with 15 members made up of students, faculty and staff from across campus to bring a breadth of lived experiences and expertise.

The committee will provide ongoing recommendations to the President and Vice-Chancellor within the University’s evolving EDIA framework of activities, policies and procedures so that tactical goals and actions can be developed, enacted, communicated and monitored.

Psychology EDI Committee

The Psychology EDI Committee is a student-led initiative run with the support of several faculty members. The purpose of the committee is to support MRU’s psychology majors. In the Fall 2022 semester, they sent out a detailed survey to students asking EDIA-related questions. Based on the results of the survey, the committee now has several projects underway to attempt to meet the needs expressed by students. In order to communicate EDIA-related events and support to students, the committee has an existing Instagram handle for these purposes - @MRUPSYCEDI.

Multifaith and Spirituality Supports

MRU has a team of Faith Representatives connecting to a variety of faith traditions who are available to the MRU community. You can connect with Faith Representatives by phone, email, or on campus at the Mulifaith & Spiritual Supports (MFSS) Office (I143). In addition to offering a variety of programs and events, the MFSS Gathering Place (I143A) can be reserved for faith and spiritual community practice (text studies, prayer groups, conversation circles, and more). Meditation Centre

International Student Support Centre

The International Student Support Centre (ISSC) provides a vibrant space for students from all backgrounds to meet other MRU students as well as students studying on exchange. The ISSC is staffed by students who can provide information, support and peer-driven programs that connect international and domestic students. The ISSC team plans and creates opportunities for students to participate in fun and engaging social and cultural activities, and provides a space for students to gather to practice language, study, meet new people and learn from each other.

The Office of Safe Disclosure provides a confidential and neutral space for MRU community members to discuss concerns related to equity, human rights, discrimination and other safe disclosure matters. Individuals will have an opportunity to learn about formal and informal options to address their concerns, as well as the support and resources available to them. The Residence Services team is committed to providing a safe and enjoyable environment that will help students develop personally, socially and academically.

Our goal is to foster a supportive living and learning community so students enjoy a successful transition to post-secondary studies as well as a great Residence experience. Student Counselling Services

Primary audience: Students

Student Counselling Services is made up of a team of 10 counsellors. The office is a calm and welcoming space, and serves to provide students with ongoing care.

Counselling is focused on three areas; personal, career and educational. Sessions are available online or in person. Students can also choose to attend one-on-one or group sessions.

Counselling workshops are also available upon request. Group requests are encouraged.

Student Learning Services

Student Learning Services (SLS) offers programs for all students. Students can meet with an SLS Learning Strategist online or in-person for a one-on-one appointment to talk about math, referencing, writing and editing, time management and learning strategies. SLS Academic Success workshops offer opportunities to ask questions, practice, and learn how to be an efficient and effective learner and writer. SLS Peer Learning Program (PLP) volunteers help their peers be more successful with learning and keeping up with specific course content.
