The After Hours Peer Support Centre offers free, confidential, compassionate and non-judgmental support for any student in crisis or distress. Our trained volunteers offer peer support, crisis management and information and resources for students who need someone to talk to.

Please note: We are closed on Fridays, Sundays, and statutory holidays.

Who Should Use our Services?
Any MRU student experiencing a crisis, distress, or simply in need of someone to talk to. We provide supportive listening services for any issues that is causing you concern.

What to Expect When You Visit the Centre
When you arrive, a volunteer will greet you and guide you to a private room. There, the volunteer will listen to your concerns and explore how they’ve been affecting you. Whether it’s exam stress, relationship issues, concerns with substance use, issues with abuse or family violence, or suicide concerns, volunteers are trained and ready to help. They will offer resources and referrals, as well as supportive listening, to help manage your concerns if needed.
Opportunities to Get Involved
As a student volunteer or social work practicum student with the After Hours Peer Support Centre, you’ll play a key role in helping students in crisis. Your efforts will create a welcoming and inclusive space where students can feel safe and supported. You’ll assist in identifying resources for students during challenging times and provide a listening ear, offering trauma-informed care to those in need by:
- Helping students set goals and develop action plans.
- Offering trauma-informed care and supportive listening to students in distress.
- Championing equity, diversity, and inclusion on campus.
- Welcoming and respecting all experiences and ideas.
