Professional development
The ADC provides MRU faculty members with a variety of professional learning and development opportunities ranging from:
- stand-alone workshops
- workshop series which run over multiple sessions
- semester-long faculty study groups
- year-long Faculty Learning Communities (FLC).
These PD opportunities are facilitated by ADC faculty development consultants and professional staff, and address broad topic areas related to pedagogy, curriculum, assessment, teaching effectiveness, scholarship, and technology integration, in the university context.

Mentorship Program
Are you interested in finding a mentor to support you during your pre-tenure experience at MRU? The Mentorship Program pairs you with a tenured faculty member from a different Faculty who matches your needs and specific area of mentorship. The goal of mentorship is to create a supportive and collaborative relationship. Mentors can help you learn about MRU and support your growth in various aspects of the faculty role.
What is the time commitment?
All mentees will be expected to attend a professional development meeting related to mentorship in early Fall. Once matched, mentors and mentees should plan to meet once a month throughout the academic year.
The call for mentees will be announced in Spring. Keep an eye on the ADC newsletter for updates.
Faculty Funding Opportunities
The ADC offers grants to those looking to enhance their teaching or participate in Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) research. Visit the pages below to learn more about the different grants.
The MRFA and MRU offer a variety of funding opportunities to faculty members. Visit the MRFA Funding Opportunities page to learn more.Peer Evaluation Training
Tenured faculty may be asked to be peer evaluators for members of their department. Article 28.5.3 of the Collective Agreement between the Board of Governors of Mount Royal University and the Mount Royal Faculty Association states that all faculty members serving as peer evaluators must complete training before conducting evaluations. The current list of those who have completed this training is available on MyMRU, under the Faculty tab, in the Tenure & Promotion & Peer Evaluation box or this link.
This training will be offered at least twice per year (September and January) through the Office of the Provost with assistance from the ADC.
Employee Wellness
The physical and mental well-being of all employees is a priority at MRU. To support this, MRU has created an Employee Wellness site that provides programming, resources and services. Visit the Employee Wellness site to learn.
