BIOGRAPHY
Rafik has attained extensive experience in public accounting, taxation, oil & gas, management, manufacturing, & education sectors.
He began teaching on a sessional basis at Mount Royal University in 1992 and has also taught at the University of Calgary & other institutions.
He began teaching full time at Mount Royal in 2001 & was awarded tenure in 2004.
He has also instructed in the Accounting Accelerated Program for the Certified Management Accountants (CMA Alberta).
In 2008 Rafik was awarded the Distinguished Teaching Award for Teaching Excellence.
In both of the years, 1998 & 1999 he was nominated for this same teaching award.
Additionally, Rafik has been awarded the "E" Award for Teaching Excellence by the Students' Association in both of the years 2002 & 2006.
In 2011 he was awarded the CAEF Teaching Prize by the Chartered Accountants Education Foundation of Alberta for teaching excellence.
Rafik actively participates in numerous MRFA & Department committees & actively volunteers in nonprofit organizations.
Currently, he is the treasurer of McMan Youth Family & Community Services (Calgary Region) & also the treasurer on the Alberta Provincial Board.
McMan is a community focused organization providing quality care and services to individuals and families. The organization provides assistance & support to individuals so that they can obtain & develop skills in becoming contributing & effective members in their communities.
He is also the treasurer on the Canadian Council of Small Business and Entrepreneurship (CCSBE) Board. The Canadian Council for Small Business & Entrepreneurship (CCSBE)is a premier national membership based organization in Canada whose goals are to promote small business & entrepreneurship.
Rafik also sits on the Society of Management Accountants of Alberta (CMA Alberta) Complaints Inquiry Committee.
